How to see Jupiter on its closest approach to Earth in decades from the Bay Area

On Monday evening, Jupiter will be nearly six decades away from Earth.

1

And if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, there's a strong possibility you'll be able to view the fifth planet from the sun shining in the night sky.

2

Jupiter will be in opposition at that time, which means it will be on the other side of the Earth from the sun.

3

This occurs once every 13 months and causes the planet to look bigger in the sky than it does at any other period of the year,

4

However, this year is different from the rest since Jupiter will be 367 million miles closer than normal.

5

The last time the planet was this close to Earth was in 1963.
