Jalen Hill, a three-year UCLA basketball player who left last year for personal reasons, has passed away.
Hill's death was announced by his family on Instagram on Tuesday, following his disappearance in Costa Rica.
The post was written by Hill's relatives. "We are aware of the impact Jalen has had on so many people's life,"
On Wednesday, UCLA and head coach Mick Cronin released comments on social media honouring Hill's passing.
Hill, a forward-center from Corona, California, started 40 of his 77 career games for the Bruins over the course of three seasons, averaging 6.5 points and 6.4 rebounds.
Hill announced his decision to leave the programme in February of 2021 in an Instagram video that was uploaded in April of that year.
He said he would be retiring from basketball as he dealt with anxiety and depression.
