The Crenshaw neighbourhood may soon get a new Costco store with an unusual addition: 800 apartments constructed above it.
National real estate company Thrive Living intends to construct a mixed-use complex on the site of a five-acre commercial property at 5035 Coliseum.
That contains both the members-only warehouse shop and the housing rentals.
184 of the 800 units that are being considered, or 23% of the total, will be reserved for low-income residents.
The remaining market-rate units will be classified as workforce housing and non-subsidized affordable housing, and all of them will be available to people with Section 8 vouchers.
Other Crenshaw homeowners are drawing attention to the possible parking issues and the anticipated increase in traffic the region could experience.
People think that new construction will raise the demand for the neighbourhood and raise the expense of living.
An enormous AT&T plant once stood on the property, but it is currently vacant.
The city still needs to approve the project idea.
